Stranraer Music Town is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to promoting live music of all sorts in and around Stranraer. We want to see Stranraer become 'The Music Town', in the same way that Wigtown is 'The Book Town', and Castle Douglas 'The Food Town'. We want to help everyone make live music a part of their every-day lives.
On a number of Saturday afternoons through the summer we have been providing free live music on Castle Square. From pipe bands and african drumming through to heavy rock, the musicians have all given their time freely to showcase the rich variety of live music that is available in the area, and promote the Stranraer Music Town Campaign.
If you have seen us at Castle Square or other musical events about the town, you may have been asked to sign a pledge-sheet. To gain official recognition as a Music Town we have to show that the people of Stranraer really want it, and the best way to do that is to collect signatures. So please, if you haven't already done so, Sign the pledge!
The aim of this site is to act as a focal point for everyone connected with music in the area, and providing easy access for anyone who wants to get involved.
There are three elements to the site:
The Gig Guide: Does what it says on the tin.
The Listings: where you can find contact details for local bands, venues, clubs, and just about everyone else connected with music in the area.
The Forums: Where you can promote your gig, sell an instrument or just talk about music.
Anyone can list gigs, events and meetings in the gig guide. It's very easy and completely free. So if you know of any music happening that doesn't appear on the list, put it up.
We want to make these listings as complete as possible, so if you represent, or know of, a band, organisation or business connected with music in the area, please let us know using the Listing Request page. It's completely free!
